Kim Kardashian has received a nominal compensation of 1 euro, approximately £0.86, from a Paris court in connection with her harrowing experience during an armed robbery in October 2016. The theft, which took place in her hotel room while she was alone, resulted in the loss of jewellery valued at around $6 million (£4.9 million), most of which remains unaccounted for. The ruling was confirmed by a lawyer involved in the case and aligns with the sum Kardashian requested.

Alongside Kardashian, her childhood friend, Simone Harouche, who was present at the hotel during the incident, was awarded the same amount. The two issued a joint statement expressing their gratitude for the recognition as victims. They noted that while the financial compensation was minimal, the ruling was significant for accountability and acknowledgment of the trauma they endured.
“We are thankful to the French justice system for recognising us as victims of the terrible events that took place in Paris in 2016,” Kardashian and Harouche stated. The robbery unfolded on 3 October 2016, when five masked men, some impersonating police officers, broke into Kardashian’s hotel room. Holding her at gunpoint, they bound her hands, placed her in a bathtub, and proceeded to loot her belongings under threat of violence. Kardashian managed to free herself after wriggling her hands out of the plastic ties and sought help from Harouche, who was in a nearby room.
During the trial, Kardashian recounted her fear for her life, stating that during the ordeal, she genuinely feared she would not survive. She wore a striking black outfit adorned with diamonds when she testified, a move which later, she elaborated on in her reality show, was intended to ‘taunt’ her assailants.
An extensive investigation led to the arrest of 17 individuals by January 2017, with ten of those ultimately facing trial, although the proceedings were delayed on numerous occasions. Known in the media as the “Grandpa robbers,” the suspects were noted for their older age and extensive criminal backgrounds. In May 2025, Kardashian testified about her traumatic experience, reaffirming the emotional toll the robbery took on her and her family.
After a lengthy judicial process, eight defendants were convicted of various charges related to the robbery, while two were acquitted. However, none will serve additional prison time since the judge took into account the period they had already spent incarcerated.
