The White House has officially introduced an online arcade featuring a selection of retro-style games that endorse various policies of the Trump administration. Launched on 3rd September, the arcade can be accessed through the official White House website and presents a playful yet controversial approach to political messaging.

Five games comprise this retro collection, each designed around key themes such as border control and nutritional guidelines in schools. Among the titles, notably are “Build the Wall” and “Rio Run,” which reflect the administration’s stance on immigration and border security.

One of the standout games, “Flappy Bill,” is inspired by the popular mobile game “Flappy Bird.” In this version, users guide a bald eagle, symbolising the United States, through the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This game sets the tone for the arcade, combining light-hearted gameplay with elements of American iconography.
The “Build the Wall” game adopts a Tetris-like format, challenging players to construct barriers at the southern border while preventing unauthorized access, accompanied by a narrative that encourages safeguarding the nation’s borders. The second game, “Rio Run,” represents a similar vibe but invites participants to gather individuals attempting to cross the border along the Rio Grande, encapsulating the administration’s focus on immigration enforcement.
In addition to border-themed games, the arcade also features “Supply Line.” This game, reminiscent of the classic arcade title “Tapper,” challenges players to maintain a conveyor belt of healthy school lunch items while discarding less nutritious options such as food colouring and additives. The objective here aligns with the administration’s efforts to promote better dietary choices for children.
Completing the lineup is “Trump Savings Tycoon,” wherein players collect virtual currency and items to fund “Trump accounts” for children, a reference to the administration’s proposal of establishing a savings account for every child born during Donald Trump’s second term, amounting to $1,000 each.
To promote this initiative, the White House shared various animated posts on X (formerly Twitter), featuring graphics that cleverly modified classic gaming logos, substituting “Sega” for “Maga,” a nod to Trump’s infamous slogan, “Make America Great Again.” In one promotional message, they enthused, “CAN’T STOP WINNING. 🎮”, summarising the core activities of the arcade with the tagline, “Build the wall. Deport. Fill a Trump Account.”
Promotional videos for the arcade have also been released, showcasing individuals engaging with “Flappy Bill” while listening to Donald Trump’s speeches. The White House cheekily captioned the video, suggesting that for those who are “easily distracted,” the arcade could be the perfect solution.
The launch of this unconventional arcade raises questions and stirs conversations regarding the intersection of politics and entertainment. By utilising familiar gaming formats and humour, the White House aims to appeal to a younger audience while reinforcing specific policy messages.
As the arcade garners attention, many are curious to see how the public will react to this blend of politics and fun. Amidst a highly polarized political landscape, such initiatives may either forge connections with supporters or invite criticism from opposing sides.
The White House has yet to respond to queries regarding the feedback and reception of the arcade. However, the innovative strategy underscores a growing trend of using digital platforms to engage constituents and promote political agendas in creative ways.
