In an extraordinary turn of events, Wesley and Brandi McDermott discovered their Arkansas restaurant, Caddy Shacks, in disarray following an unexpected invasion by wildlife. The couple rushed to their establishment in Fairfield Bay on August 31 after learning from their manager that it had been broken into and “completely ransacked.”

Brandi, recalling the moment, described it as a “punch to the stomach.” The McDermotts had opened Caddy Shacks just over a year ago, if not earlier than July 2025, following what Brandi referred to as several “God winks,” encouraging them to pursue the venture. The family-oriented restaurant has since become a community hub, with patrons whom they consider part of their “Caddy family.”
Upon their arrival, the McDermotts were shocked to see the extent of the destruction. Broken dishes, damaged ceilings, and contaminated food marked the aftermath of what they initially believed was a human break-in. However, as Brandi began to inspect the premises, she noticed paw prints on a television screen, prompting her to review the surveillance footage.

To their astonishment, the McDermotts discovered that the offenders were not human intruders, but rather three raccoons. The animals had reportedly spent about four hours inside the restaurant, embarking on what Brandi whimsically described as a “rave.” Their antics included swinging from lights, knocking over glasses, and turning the restaurant’s inventory into their playground.

The chaos left behind by the raccoons resulted in extensive damage, requiring the couple to temporarily close the restaurant right before Labour Day weekend, which is a key period for seasonal businesses in the area. “It is incredibly heartbreaking that we will not be able to reopen for the last weekend of lake season,” Brandi expressed.
Despite the grim situation, the McDermotts were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from their community and beyond. Brandi shared how the kindness from locals and fellow Arkansans helped uplift their spirits during this challenging time. “Our hearts, souls, and spirits have been renewed by the outreach of love and support,” she said.
Determined to rebuild and recover, the couple has made the decision to press on. “Our customers are our family, and they have spoken,” Brandi told PEOPLE. She confirmed that they are resolute in reopening the restaurant, despite the challenges they face in repairing the damage.
As they navigate the recovery process, the McDermotts are working closely with the health department to ensure the restaurant meets all safety regulations before they can welcome back customers. Additionally, a wildlife remediation company has been enlisted to help address the situation.
Looking ahead, Brandi hopes Caddy Shacks will be back in business within a few weeks. Emphasising their faith, she stated, “We are steadfast in our faith that once we are able, God will provide!” The McDermotts eagerly anticipate reuniting with their loyal customers, eager to rebuild their beloved community establishment.
With their determination and the strong support from their community, the McDermotts are ready to turn this unusual chapter into a story of resilience, as they prepare to reopen and welcome back their “Caddy family.”
