Missing Dad with Dementia Found Dead in Floodplain Near Home He Left More Than a Week Earlier

The community of Groveport, Ohio, is mourning the loss of Thurman Walker, a 75-year-old man who was found deceased close to his family home, after being reported missing for nearly two weeks. Captain Kurt Blevins of the Groveport Police Department confirmed that Walker’s body was found “within walking distance” of his home. Initial reports noted that Walker left the house wearing a grey Ohio State University hoodie, jeans, white trainers, and a black OSU cap. Due to his dementia, he was believed to be unable to safely navigate or find his way back home after becoming lost.

The police quickly engaged the community once Walker was reported missing, implementing a coherent plan that included an increase in patrol units, deployment of drones, and coordination with volunteer organisations to enhance the search effort. Walker was ultimately located by a volunteer search group, who alerted the authorities at around 7:30 p.m. on the day of his discovery.
