According to an official statement from the City of Englewood, Anderson died on the morning of August 28 while hiking in a popular area known for its scenic trails. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a hiker who had lost consciousness and was not breathing at approximately 6:40 a.m. Other hikers on the scene had started administering CPR before law enforcement and medical personnel arrived. Regrettably, despite their efforts, Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of death remains under investigation and will be determined by the coroner’s office.
Anderson played a significant role in the Englewood community long before he took office. His advocacy work focused on homelessness and affordable housing, and he was instrumental in the city’s response to the devastating floods that impacted the area in 2018. The city officials highlighted his initiatives, including the promotion of “15-minute city” principles designed to make essential services and amenities easily accessible to residents, whether by walking, cycling, or using public transport.
Before his tenure on the city council, Anderson dedicated himself to local churches in various pastoral roles. He co-founded the nonprofit coalition Change the Trend, which aimed to combat homelessness and support vulnerable populations in the community.
