Despite the harrowing ordeal, rescuers managed to bring the survivors and the recovered bodies to Lampedusa, where the survivors are receiving necessary medical and psychological support.

With the assistance of the Italian Coast Guard and Frontex, a European Union border agency, search operations are underway to locate any remaining survivors.
