A 38-year-old man has been arrested in North Carolina, facing serious charges including first-degree kidnapping and assault following the mysterious disappearance of a 12-year-old girl. According to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the investigation commenced after both the girl and Gear went missing from a residence in Lillington shortly before 1 p.m. The authorities launched an extensive search using K-9 units and drones, while a public alert was issued for Gear, who was described as potentially armed and dangerous with prior warrants pertaining to kidnapping.
The situation took a positive turn when the young girl was eventually found on the side of Highway 421. Reports indicate that she managed to escape her predicament and had the presence of mind to flag down a passing motorist for assistance. Meanwhile, Gear’s pickup truck was discovered abandoned in the vicinity.
In the subsequent manhunt, Gear was located by deputies hiding in a wooded area along the highway. He was taken into custody without further incident and is now being held in Harnett County Detention Center on a substantial bond of $2.5 million.
