NASA astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore’s family and friends have been eagerly awaiting his return to Earth after spending an unexpected nine months stranded in outer space. As Wilmore marked his anticipated return, his daughter, Daryn Wilmore, took to TikTok to share the exciting news with her followers.

In a heartfelt TikTok video posted on March 18, Daryn joyfully announced, “Hi everyone, welcome to the very final installment of my dad is stuck in space, because he’s not anymore!” This update came just hours before the successful landing of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-9, ending months of anticipation for the Wilmore family.
Despite not planning a large celebration, Daryn revealed that they would still be marking her father’s return on a smaller scale, including preparing his favorite dessert, pecan pie. She also shared that she had created a list of his favorite things and activities they used to do together, which they planned on enjoying before she heads back to college.
As one of the longest space missions for a NASA astronaut, Wilmore’s return holds significant importance not only for his family but also for the wider space community. Alongside fellow NASA astronaut Sunita “Suni” Williams, Wilmore launched to the International Space Station (ISS) on June 5 aboard Boeing’s new Starliner capsule. Originally planned for a ten-day mission, numerous delays extended their stay.
After months of troubleshooting and waiting, Wilmore, Williams, and their fellow crew members safely splashed down off the coast of Florida on March 18, around 6 p.m. local time. Upon his return, Wilmore will undergo several tests as part of the ongoing human space flight experiment to readjust to Earth’s gravity after spending an extended period in space.
In her TikTok video, Daryn expressed her pride and love for her father, emphasising the significance of his successful return. She signed off by playfully suggesting that a movie should be made about their family’s space adventure. The touching reunion has captured the hearts of many, highlighting the dedication and resilience of astronauts and their families.
Barry “Butch” Wilmore’s return from space represents a remarkable achievement in human space exploration, showcasing the perseverance and expertise of NASA’s astronauts. As the space community celebrates this milestone, the Wilmore family embraces their reunion and looks forward to cherishing precious moments together on Earth.
