Country music star Justin Moore recently provided a candid insight into his health concerns during an appearance on Tracy Lawrence’s podcast, ‘TL’s Road House’. The discussion, which took place on August 19, revealed the singer’s anxiety over a worrying build-up of fat around his neck, initially feared to be cancerous.

At 42, Moore opened up about his experiences with health issues, expressing relief when he learned that the growth—a type of benign lump known as a lipoma—was not life-threatening. This kind of tumour is typically made up of fat cells and is slow-growing. Moore described the moment he and his wife left the hospital after receiving the MRI results. “We thought it was cancer,” he admitted, acknowledging the unsettling thoughts that crossed his mind at that time. “Of course your mind takes you to the worst possible places.”

Despite the good news regarding the non-cancerous nature of the lump, Moore was informed of potential difficulties that could arise from surgical removal, particularly concerning his ability to sing and speak. He reflected on a slightly disappointing outcome the day he received his diagnosis but remained pragmatic about the situation. “It doesn’t affect me,” he commented wryly, adding, “I just look like a linebacker circa 1982.”
Moore’s wife, Kate, offered supportive words, urging him to focus on the positives: “If you just have a fat neck and you’re here for the next 50 years, then shut up and stop complaining,” she told him. This encouragement resonated with Moore, who laughter at the idea that his music career would not rely on his appearance.
In addition to discussing the lump, Moore also touched on another significant aspect of his life—his battle with alcohol. Earlier this year, he made the decision to enter rehab after recognising that his drinking habits were affecting both his work and personal life. Moore described arriving at a turning point, stating, “It started affecting my life… I was putting so much energy into drinking that it was taking away from my professionalism and my family.”
He recalled a pivotal moment after church when he approached his wife and declared, “I’ve got to get help.” He committed to treating his rehab experience as a “business trip” to ensure his focus remained on recovery. Since that point, Moore proudly shared that he has maintained 65 days of sobriety. “I feel like myself for the first time in a while,” he reflected, expressing a sense of accomplishment in his recovery journey.
Moore has made it a habit to be open about his struggles, both physical and personal, which resonates with many of his fans. His willingness to confront these issues head-on sets an example for others facing similar challenges. As he continues to navigate the pressures of fame, the singer’s transparency sheds light on the importance of prioritising mental health and wellbeing.
As Moore’s journey unfolds, he appears to be focused on gratitude and acceptance in the face of adversity. The support of his family and the awareness garnered through public discussions about his experiences have evidently played a crucial role in his recovery process.
The podcast episode stands as a reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by those in the public eye, illustrating that fame does not exempt one from life’s struggles. As artists continue to share their stories, listeners are reminded that behind every success is a human being dealing with their own obstacles, ultimately fostering empathy and understanding in the community.
