Owner Hank Woodburn expressed his gratitude to the countless families who made memories at Adventure Landing over the years. “It has truly been a privilege to bring fun, laughter, and lifelong memories to so many families throughout the years,” Woodburn stated in the post. Long-time patron Katy Pagano reminisced, stating, “We’ve been coming here for at least a decade,” as she introduced her two sons and nephew to laser tag for the final time. Fellow visitor Shannon Gess echoed her sentiments, noting, “It’s an amazing place, and we’re sad to see it go.”
Rumours about the park’s potential closure had begun circulating as early as March, but at that time, the owners dismissed them as unfounded. The eventual announcement of closure left many community members shocked and saddened, as Adventure Landing had been a staple of family entertainment for generations.
In response to inquiries regarding the fate of its beloved attractions, the park shared on social media that several items would be auctioned off in the near future. “We will be auctioning off many items from the park. Adventure Landing’s permanent closure follows a concerning trend of family-run amusement parks shutting down across the country. Earlier this summer, Fiesta Village Family Fun Park in Colton, California, ended its operations after more than 50 years, having first opened its doors in 1974. The site previously featured an array of attractions, including mini-golf courses, go-kart tracks, and arcade games.
The closures have also affected operations in other states. Fun Spot America Theme Park in Fayetteville, Georgia, closed earlier this month, with CEO John Arie Jr. describing the decision as “an extremely difficult choice.” The park, which transformed itself into a hotspot for roller coaster enthusiasts in recent years with the launch of the ArieForce One, had first debuted under the name “Dixieland” in 1990.
As Raleigh bids farewell to Adventure Landing, the impact of its closure resonates throughout the local community.
