A young medic from New Jersey is being praised as a hero after his quick actions helped rescue children from an overturned school bus. The incident occurred on the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway in Montvale on Monday when the bus, carrying Jewish students to a wedding celebration in New Square, New York, flipped over, as reported by radio station WKXW and CBS affiliate WCBS-TV.
22-year-old Matt Goldman, a volunteer with the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, happened to be driving behind the bus when the crash took place. Goldman wasted no time in stopping to offer assistance. “I don’t know if I believe in fate, but I definitely believe in the right time and the right place,” Goldman shared in an interview with ABC affiliate WABC-TV.
Goldman, who has been with the ambulance corps for nearly six years, immediately sprang into action. He helped students escape from the overturned bus and then proceeded to rescue a teenager who was trapped underneath. The crash resulted in over a dozen injuries, with a 14-year-old boy remaining critically injured and pinned underneath the bus.
