Renowned author James Patterson is set to delight fans of his acclaimed “Maximum Ride” series with the release of a new limited collector’s edition. This special edition features a unique author’s note from Patterson himself and showcases a revamped cover for “Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment.” The book will be published in November by Little, Brown and Company.

In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Patterson, 79, expressed his fondness for the character of Maximum Ride, stating, “Maximum Ride is one of my favourite characters I’ve ever created.” He reflected on the inspiration behind the character, sharing, “I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of being able to fly, and Max let me do that. When I write Max, I fly. When you read Max, you fly.” This sentiment truly encapsulates the essence of the series, as he aims to convey a sense of adventure and wonder to his readers.

The “Maximum Ride” series began with “The Angel Experiment,” released in 2005. The narrative introduces a group known as “the Flock,” comprised of Max, Gasman, Nudge, Fang, Iggy, and Angel. These young individuals, enhanced through genetic experimentation, possess remarkable abilities such as strength, speed, intelligence, and even telepathic powers. As the story unfolds, the characters have escaped their creators and are on a relentless quest for freedom. When one of their own, Angel, goes missing, Max leads the charge to orchestrate a daring rescue, challenging their daily vow: “I’m not going to die today.”
Patterson’s first entry in the series quickly ascended the literary charts, securing the No. 1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list. Its compelling narrative eventually led to a cinematic adaptation in 2016. Over the years, readers have embraced the series, which now spans nine primary novels and several spin-off titles. The final book in the original series, “Maximum Ride Forever,” was published in 2009.
In 2020, Patterson revisited the “Maximum Ride” universe with a new storyline centred around Max’s daughter, Hawk. The series continued with “City of the Dead” in 2021, further expanding the legacy of these beloved characters.
As an author, Patterson is known for his prolific output, with numerous titles poised for release before the year’s end. Upcoming works include “The Munich Affair” and “The Family Cross.” In a notable collaboration, Patterson joined forces with social media sensation James “MrBeast” Donaldson for a new book, “The Most Dangerous Games,” set to launch this autumn. Patterson described the collaboration, saying, “Jimmy dreams bigger than almost anyone I’ve ever met. When we started talking about this story, the only rule was that every page had to be bigger, faster and more surprising than the last.”
Fans of the “Maximum Ride” series can eagerly anticipate the launch of the limited collector’s edition of “Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment” on 16 November 2026. Pre-orders are now available at various retailers, promising to be a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
James Patterson’s return to this cherished series not only reinforces his status in the literary world but also provides a refreshing connection for long-time fans of “Maximum Ride.” As readers prepare to dive back into Max’s exhilarating world, the special features of this edition are sure to enhance the reading experience, further igniting the imaginations of both new and returning fans.
