A Louisiana man faces serious charges after the tragic death of a three-year-old girl under his care, which authorities have classified as a homicide. Bernard JR Fleander, 26, was arrested on August 13 and charged with first-degree murder following the news of the child’s passing, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) has confirmed.

The toddler, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken to a hospital in Napoleonville in the early hours of that morning after Fleander reported her unresponsiveness. Despite the efforts of medical staff to save her, she was declared dead shortly after her arrival. An autopsy later revealed signs of significant trauma, including severe head injuries and internal bleeding.
According to reports, the injuries were sustained while the girl was reportedly undergoing potty training at Fleander’s residence in Belle Rose.
