Missouri Theme Park Unveils Plans for ‘Legendary’ Record-Breaking Family Roller Coaster

Silver Dollar City, the renowned theme park in Branson, Missouri, has announced plans for a new attraction that promises to be a record-breaking addition to its offerings. The Miner’s Mountain Express roller coaster is set to make its debut in spring 2027, as part of a significant $150 million expansion aimed at enhancing the park’s guest experience.

The new ride is designed to transport visitors aboard a runaway mine train, taking them on an exhilarating journey through a newly developed area of the park in search of a long-lost entrance to Marvel Cave. This latest development pays homage to the park’s historical roots, which are intrinsically linked to the cave’s discovery and the activities of the Marble Cave Mining Company that operated in the vicinity during the 1880s.

An impressive feature of the Miner’s Mountain Express will be the inclusion of a 15-storey headframe, which is inspired by authentic mining structures. This addition is intended to enrich the immersive quality of the ride, allowing families to connect with the history of the area while enjoying its thrilling features. Erica Rutledge, the senior creative director at Silver Dollar City’s parent organisation, Herschend Family Entertainment, stated that the intent was to create an adventure that resonates with the park’s origins.

The new roller coaster boasts a substantial length of 3,553 feet, making it the longest family coaster in the Midwest and further cementing Silver Dollar City’s reputation for offering exciting experiences for all ages. The ride will last for a total of 3 minutes and 18 seconds, featuring two lift hills and 15 instances of weightlessness. In an inclusive move, the park has set a minimum supervised height requirement of just 39 inches, ensuring that younger thrill-seekers will have the opportunity to join in the fun.

Miner’s Mountain Express is not just about the ride itself; it is part of a broader investment in the park that includes new developments and enhancements to existing facilities. Among the plans is the creation of Daredevil Pass, a fresh area that will connect to existing attractions, including WildFire, PowderKeg, and the American Plunge. The new coaster will replace Thunderation, a beloved steel roller coaster that has been part of Silver Dollar City’s landscape for more than three decades. Thunderation, which opened its tracks in 1993, was celebrated for its stunning views of the Ozark Mountains and was once heralded as the fastest mine train coaster. Park officials confirmed that the final operation of Thunderation will take place in early January 2027, following which the area will be transformed to accommodate the Miner’s Mountain Express.
