A high school football player in Arkansas experienced a startling discovery during a practice session when he found a venomous cottonmouth snake lurking inside his helmet. The incident unfolded on August 6 at Maumelle High School, leaving the young athlete both startled and fortunate to escape unscathed.

The athlete, who had already worn the helmet for nearly an hour, noticed “unusual movement” within the headgear, prompting his concern. In a state of disbelief, he took the helmet to a defensive coach, bringing the alarming situation to light. The coaches quickly inspected the helmet and found a roughly two-foot-long snake nestled beneath the padding.

According to local news reports, the coaches acted promptly to secure the snake using a tote bag while awaiting the arrival of Maumelle Animal Services. Fortunately, the athlete managed to avoid any bites during his time wearing the helmet with the snake inside, a close call noted by Chris Davis, the director of animal services.

One of the team coaches, who was involved in the incident, expressed his astonishment, suggesting that the experience was truly “shock and disbelief”. He remarked humorously on the rarity of such an event, stating, “I’ve got a better shot at winning the lottery than seeing this in my 10 years.”
