The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office (HRCO) received a call shortly after midnight reporting that a man had threatened another during the festive event at a venue located on Summit Drive in Odell. Responding swiftly to the scene, a sheriff’s deputy began speaking to the caller when the situation escalated dramatically.

According to a statement from the HRCO, while the deputy was gathering information next to a truck parked across the road from the wedding, Bucio emerged from an orchard opposite and discharged several rounds in their direction. Thankfully, no one was injured during this outburst as the deputy quickly took action, ensuring that all innocent bystanders were moved to safety behind nearby vehicles.

Additional law enforcement units arrived shortly after, including officers from the Hood River City Police. Despite their initial response, Bucio managed to evade capture, prompting a more extensive manhunt. The circumstances surrounding the shooting raised concerns, as it was reported that Bucio had previously been a guest at the wedding, making the incident all the more shocking for attendees.
The investigation that followed established sufficient grounds for Bucio’s arrest. Hood River County Undersheriff Joel Ives disclosed that Bucio pulled the trigger during the incident, although the weapon did not discharge. This detail underscores the serendipitous nature of the event, where a potential tragedy was narrowly avoided.
Law enforcement conducted a search for Bucio’s vehicle, which they eventually located. It was properly identified and followed into Wasco County, where an arrest operation was executed. Units from the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office, along with police from the Dalles City and Hood River City, apprehended Bucio without any further incident.
He has now been charged with several serious offences, including two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of menacing, disorderly conduct in the second degree, first-degree assault, and pointing a firearm at another individual. Such a range of charges reflects the nature of the crimes and the potential risks posed to the guests at the wedding.
The HRCO has continued to encourage requests for public information in relation to the case, and further updates on the legal proceedings against Bucio are anticipated as he is processed through the Northern Oregon Regional Corrections Facilities (NORCOR).
This incident has heightened awareness around safety measures at large events, highlighting the need for vigilance in managing risks associated with firearms. As details emerge, the community remains shaken by the sudden turn of events during what was meant to be a joyous celebration. The case serves as a reminder of the potential threats that can surface in any social gathering, prompting discussions on conflict resolution and security protocols in similar environments.
