**Tennessee Man Surrenders Following Fatal Traffic Accident**

A Nashville man has voluntarily surrendered to police nearly nine months after being implicated in a tragic car accident that resulted in the death of 41-year-old Dustin McLeod. James Brewington Jr., aged 61, turned himself in to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) on Thursday, July 23, and is now facing multiple charges connected to the incident.
Brewington has been charged with vehicular homicide by reckless conduct, reckless endangerment, and three counts of aggravated assault. Following his arrest, he was booked into custody, where he is being held on a bond set at $135,000.
The fatal collision occurred on November 9, 2025, when Brewington attempted to overtake a vehicle making a right turn while driving southbound near Bobel Lane. In his manoeuvre, he swerved into the path of oncoming traffic, crashing head-on into McLeod’s Jeep Renegade. At the time of the accident, McLeod was accompanied by his wife, Ashley, and their daughter.
Ashley has described the harrowing moments during the accident. “All of a sudden, a car came out in front of us. It all happened really fast,” she recounted in an interview with News Channel 5. “I just saw the flash of red, and everything was kind of in slow motion.”
In her chilling recollection, Ashley spoke of the aftermath: “I watched my daughter’s body go around her seatbelt. I watched my husband fly forward. I got hit with the airbag, which knocked the wind out of me for several minutes. Everything was kind of a blur but very clear. The car caught on fire. My husband wasn’t responding to me, and my daughter was screaming in the back seat.” Unfortunately, McLeod succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Skyline Medical Center.
The tragic accident left Ashley with serious injuries, including a shattered leg, and their daughter endured several months in a neck brace. The impact of the accident extended beyond their physical injuries, leading to severe emotional and financial strain. “I had to sublet my house out to be able to afford the bills,” Ashley shared. “We’ve been struggling physically, mentally, emotionally, financially.”
Following Brewington’s surrender, Ashley expressed a mix of emotions. She stated that seeing the photo of her husband’s alleged assailant for the first time was unsettling, but there was a sense of relief that justice may be served. “It’s definitely a relief to know that justice will be done in whatever way that happens,” she remarked.
In her heartfelt tribute to her late husband, Ashley reflected on Dustin’s character, branding him as “the most genuine human being that you will ever meet.” She recalled his honesty and sense of humour, describing him as a man who always made others feel valued. “You always knew where you stood with him. He was the realest person. He had the best sense of humour. He’s just an incredible man,” Ashley reflected.
The MNPD is continuing its investigation into the incident, and Brewington’s hearing will likely shed more light on the events surrounding the deadly crash.
