Taco Bell Employee, 19, Arrested on Allegation of Throwing Boiling Water on Co-Worker She Claims Took Her iPad

A 19-year-old Taco Bell employee from Memphis, Tennessee, has been arrested following an alleged incident in which she threw boiling water at a male co-worker. Malayla Henderson faces an aggravated assault charge in connection with the event that took place on Saturday, July 18.

According to the Memphis Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Taco Bell location shortly after 5 p.m. in response to a report of an armed person. Upon arrival, they learned that a male employee had been transported to a local burn centre after sustaining injuries from the incident, including second-degree burns.

Witness accounts indicate that the male worker was at the restaurant on his day off and had become involved in an altercation with Henderson. The police reported that video footage captured Henderson throwing a pot of boiling water at the man, resulting in the significant burns he sustained.

The male employee, whose identity has not been made public, claimed that the situation escalated after he moved Henderson’s iPad, which prompted a heated exchange between the two. He reported feeling increasingly uncomfortable as Henderson allegedly made inappropriate comments and intruded upon his personal space throughout the day.

In her account of the incident, Henderson alleged that the situation reached a breaking point when the male employee took her iPad. She claimed to have repeatedly asked for the device back before losing her temper. “Before you know it, I had blanked out after asking him many times to give me my iPad,” she explained in a phone interview. “I was just pouring water on him.”

Prior to the boiling water incident, police stated that the two were engaged in some “playful banter.” However, it was reported that things took a turn when Henderson, reacting to the employee’s actions, declared her intent to harm him with hot water. She then allegedly retrieved the boiling water from the kitchen before throwing it at him while he sat in the lobby area of the restaurant.

Following her arrest, Henderson was released on a $5,000 bond three days later. She is set to appear in court again on August 27, as documented in Shelby County court records.

As the investigation continues, both the Shelby County Criminal Court and Taco Bell have been approached for further comments regarding the matter.
