Becca Tobin, best known for her role in the hit series “Glee,” has announced the arrival of her second child, daughter Meyer June Martin, who was born via surrogate. Tobin shared the news of the birth during a live episode of The LadyGang podcast on July 23, while still in the hospital. Her new baby is a sibling to the couple’s four-year-old son, Rutherford “Ford” Thomas Martin, who was also welcomed through surrogacy in February 2022.

The journey to welcoming Meyer was somewhat complicated, as the baby arrived five and a half weeks early on July 19 due to complications from preeclampsia experienced by the surrogate, Katie. This unexpected development has led to Meyer spending some time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), a standard procedure for premature infants. Despite her early arrival, Tobin reassured listeners that Meyer is doing well in the NICU.
The actress recounted the moment she was asked if she wanted to assist in the delivery, and her excitement was palpable. “The doctor or midwife looks at me and asks, ‘Do you want to deliver your baby?’ I was like, ‘Um, yes,’” Tobin recalled. Wearing gloves provided by the medical staff, Tobin was able to hold her daughter moments after Meyer slid into the world. Remarkably, the umbilical cord had been wrapped around the baby twice, but thankfully, Meyer was healthy.
Meyer arrived at 7:24 a.m., weighing 5 lbs, 9 oz, and is currently receiving support through a feeding tube, which is common for babies born prematurely. Tobin explained, “Swallowing is like one of the last skills that comes and it’s like one of the most exhausting things.” While addressing her audience, she spoke with a blend of joy and concern typical for a parent in such a situation.
Tobin also shared the sentimental origins of her daughter’s name. She expressed a deep connection to family tradition, stating, “I knew that I wanted to use June as a middle name. That was my grandmother who I was incredibly close to.” The name Meyer, she noted, belongs to her great-grandfather and translates to “bringer of light” in Hebrew. After deliberating on different options, a nurse encouraged Tobin to stick with Meyer, convincing her that it was the right choice.
This new chapter for Tobin and her husband Zach Martin comes after their open discussions about their fertility challenges over the past few years. In a prior episode of her podcast, Tobin revealed that she had endured two miscarriages before opting for in vitro fertilisation to expand their family.
