The decision came down on July 17, with the jury determining Perez’s fate after examining evidence related to his communications with an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey has disclosed that Perez could face a minimum of ten years and a maximum of life imprisonment, accompanied by a potential fine of up to $500,000.
According to reports, Perez’s inappropriate interactions began in August 2024, when he engaged with the undercover officer on social media. Within a mere day of discovering the person he was communicating with was underage, Perez conveyed his desire to meet for sexual purposes. He further escalated the situation by sending an explicit photograph of himself.
On August 29, 2024, Perez drove to a predetermined location to meet what he believed was a minor, with condoms in his possession at the time. This meeting was a setup, and law enforcement was waiting, which led to his immediate arrest.
U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer praised the collaborative efforts of various agencies, including the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Eastampton Police Department, all of whom played crucial roles in the investigation that ultimately brought Perez to justice.
