Neighbor Says He Smelled Odor for Weeks Before Body Was Found in Donation Box

The incident, which occurred on 17 July, prompted the involvement of the Odessa Police Department after a report was made regarding a potential body at the intersection of 8th Street and Coleman Avenue.

Upon their arrival, police confirmed that they located the lifeless body of a man within the confines of the donation box. Enriquez recounted: “I never knew where it came from, I just smelled it. But I thought it was a trashcan, you know how it smells during the summertime.” The witness further shared that his initial assumption was that the victim could have been a child, owing to the box’s limited opening. He described how difficult it was to observe the recovery procedure as police and medical examiners filled the area.

The clothing donation box was subsequently removed from the site on 19 July, two days after the body was found, as part of the ongoing investigation.
