The incident occurred when a driver experienced a flat tyre and called for roadside aid. Duvall, along with another individual, arrived to offer assistance and parked in front of the disabled vehicle. While they were working near the rear of the car, a third motorist collided with both the stranded vehicle and the duo, resulting in a devastating three-vehicle crash.

Emergency services responded to the scene promptly, but despite lifesaving efforts, Duvall was pronounced dead. The woman who was with him sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities subsequently arrested the driver of the third vehicle, charging them with aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, among other charges. Police confirmed that the investigation revealed the third motorist had failed to maintain a safe distance from the disabled vehicle and the individuals assisting.
In a statement, the city of Pepper Pike expressed their condolences to the victims’ families and all those impacted by this shocking incident. “The City of Pepper Pike extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of these two victims,” the release stated.
Duvall was identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. He served with the North Randall Fire Department, where he joined in 2022 and quickly gained recognition as a respected member of the public safety community.
Mayor David Smith and Fire Chief Marshall Shorts praised Duvall’s commitment to the community he served, noting, “Cameron’s dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve others exemplified the very best of our department and our Village.” His loss has resonated deeply within the fire service and the broader community, with officials highlighting how he made significant contributions during his time on the force.
The North Randall Professional Firefighters IAFF 5365 also paid tribute to Duvall, reflecting on his character and the impact he had on his colleagues. “Thank you for your service, your strength, and your brotherhood. You will never be forgotten,” they noted in a heartfelt message.
Duvall’s uniform, adorning his name, was shared in a post by the firefighter association, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifice he made in the line of duty. The tragic nature of this incident underscores the risks first responders face daily while serving their communities.
As investigations continue and the legal proceedings against the driver get underway, Duvall’s community remains in mourning, honouring his memory and the mark he left within the North Randall Fire Department.
