Dale Townes, aged 25, and Trevor Young, 30, have been charged with serious offences stemming from a shooting that occurred outside a Burger King in Memphis, Tennessee, on 14 July. The incident unfolded after the two men confronted a victim regarding an alleged theft of an Apple Watch.

Both Townes and Young now face multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder for Townes, who is also accused of using a firearm during the commission of a felony. Young has been charged with aggravated assault and as an accessory after the fact to the alleged crime.
Emergency services were summoned to the popular fast-food chain located on Poplar Avenue shortly before 6:30 PM after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with a gunshot wound. The victim’s son reportedly informed the authorities that Townes and Young had driven to the location in a white pickup truck, where they initiated a confrontation over the missing Apple Watch.
According to the son, a physical altercation ensued when the two men confronted him in the parking area. He sought assistance from his father, who promptly came outside to intervene, as detailed in a statement released by the Memphis Police Department. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the suspects began to assault both the son and father aggressively. During the struggle, the father managed to strike one of the attackers, causing him to fall to the ground.
In a shocking turn of events, Townes allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot the father at close range. Reports suggest that Young attempted to prevent additional shots from being fired. Following the incident, the two men fled the scene in their pickup truck.
Authorities apprehended Townes and Young shortly thereafter in the vicinity of the 1700 block of LaRose Street, within the Airways Precinct. Officers recovered two firearms from the suspect’s vehicle during the arrest, further escalating the seriousness of the charges against them.
In a statement regarding the incident, police disclosed that the suspects had previously worked with the victim’s son, indicating a potential motive related to the accusation of the stolen watch. The father, who sustained significant injuries, was initially listed in critical condition at a local hospital but has since been upgraded to non-critical status.
The shocking nature of the incident has drawn attention in the Memphis community, sparking discussions about violence and safety in public spaces. As investigations continue, there are heightened concerns over the dynamics of personal disputes escalating to violent confrontations, particularly in areas frequented by families and individuals seeking a quick meal.
The case continues to unfold, with both men due to appear in court as the legal process progresses. Local authorities are urging anyone with further information about the incident or similar occurrences to come forward and assist the investigation.
As the community responds to this recent tragedy, there is a renewed focus on prevention and intervention strategies aimed at reducing similar violent outbursts in the future. With the ongoing inquiry, further details may emerge that could shed light on the circumstances surrounding this alarming event.
The local police department has also encouraged the public to engage in discussions about how to resolve disputes peacefully and to seek help when conflicts arise, emphasising that resorting to violence is never the best solution.
