Joe Amabile, a well-known figure from reality TV, is bravely confronting the news of his brain tumour diagnosis as he and his fiancée, Serena Pitt, share their journey with the public. The couple spoke candidly about their experiences during the July 16 episode of their podcast, “Not Married to This,” revealing the emotional toll that this recent health challenge has taken on them both.

Amabile, 40, and Pitt, 28, had previously undergone full-body MRI scans with the healthcare provider Prenuvo. Following their scans, only Amabile received a call from their doctor, which they initially found unusual. Amabile, who often referred to himself as “Grocery Store Joe,” was expecting to hear about potential prostate issues, a common concern for men entering their forties.

However, the news he received was far more serious. The doctors informed Amabile that he had a lesion on the frontal lobe of his brain, described as being the size of a large blueberry or small grape. The prognosis prompted an urgent response from his medical team, with recommendations for further testing to explore the matter more thoroughly.
Subsequent scans confirmed Amabile’s diagnosis of an early-stage glioma, a type of slow-growing brain tumour. He noted that this finding was classified as incidental since he was largely asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis. “I don’t really have symptoms,” Amabile reflected, although he acknowledged that the psychological impact of his diagnosis was beginning to manifest in feelings of anxiety and self-doubt.
Pitt described how her fiancé has occasionally experienced headaches and nausea; however, Amabile clarified that his symptoms have mainly been related to feelings of lightheadedness. He expressed that his mental state might be contributing to his sensations, bringing a complex layer to his condition that adds to the challenge of managing his health.
Faced with the options of monitoring the situation or intervening surgically, Amabile opted for a craniotomy to remove the tumour. He conveyed the seriousness of the procedure, stating, “The surgery is very dangerous, it’s a craniotomy, which is scary. It’s a serious surgery.” Despite the risks, both Amabile and Pitt remain optimistic about the outcome.
The upcoming surgery is scheduled for the end of July, and Amabile is striving to maintain a positive outlook. “I believe going into this positive and keeping my stress levels low is the best thing I could do for my health in this current moment,” he said. Pitt echoed this sentiment by encouraging their listeners to take charge of their health and seek answers when faced with medical uncertainties.
In the wake of sharing this difficult news, the couple has received an outpouring of support from fans and followers on social media. Amabile expressed gratitude for the encouragement, stating, “All the positivity from everyone has been incredible and honestly has changed my outlook for the better.” He hopes that by sharing his story, others facing similar challenges may find solace in knowing they are not alone.
Pitt added her appreciation for the community’s support, remarking on the wide range of emotions that come with Amabile’s diagnosis. “Finding out that Joe has a brain tumour has come with so many emotions. It has felt very scary, overwhelming and heavy at times,” she noted. Nevertheless, she remains steadfast in her belief that together, they will navigate this journey, no matter the outcome.
As the couple prepares for the trial ahead, they continue to inspire others to advocate for their own health. Their story serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of early detection and proactive self-advocacy in the face of medical uncertainties. The couple is committed to sharing updates as they progress, hoping to foster awareness and support for others affected by similar health challenges.
