According to employees at Pet Supplies Plus, the suspect had been a daily visitor at the store for several weeks, often expressing interest in a three-month-old tuxedo kitten named Magnolia. Witnesses stated that after stealing the kitten, the man made his way across the parking lot to PNC Bank. There, he attempted to execute his plan by using Magnolia as a prop during the robbery.

The robbery unfolded when the man reportedly requested the bank manager to hold the kitten while he prepared a note. This note was presented to a bank teller, wherein he demanded cash. However, law enforcement confirmed that the attempted robbery was unsuccessful and the suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Interestingly, Magnolia was later discovered safe and sound in the bank manager’s office. The Prince George’s County Police Department responded to the incident at approximately 10:40 AM, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Footage from the security cameras at the pet store captured the suspect as he fled the store with the stolen kitten. He was described as wearing a light-coloured shirt and a black beanie while running across the shopping centre to the bank. The swift response from police officers to this unusual theft and attempted robbery showcased the seriousness with which such incidents are treated.
Stephanie Stullich, a representative from Beltsville Community Cats, rushed to the pet store after receiving a call regarding the theft. She shared her surprise at seeing a heavy police presence when she arrived, only to learn that the situation was more complicated than simply a missing kitten.
After being returned to safety, Magnolia is now back to her former self, as confirmed by Beltsville Community Cats through their social media. The organisation posted that the kitten, now free from her brief encounter with ‘crime’, is available for adoption. They have described her as sweet, playful, and affectionate, exuding a charm that could easily win over potential adopters.
“Now that her brief ‘life of crime’ is behind her, Magnolia is back to doing what she does best: stealing hearts,” the organisation shared on Facebook, highlighting her amiable personality and readiness to find her forever home.
Previously, Magnolia had been portrayed as a kitten who enjoys cuddles, adventure, and being close to her humans. This escapade appears to have done little to tarnish her reputation; a new home eager for companionship could see her stealing not cash, but only the affections of her new family.
As the story unfolds, local residents remain curious about how such a situation could arise, reflecting the unusual intersection of criminal activity and community pet ownership. The focus remains on ensuring that Magnolia finds a loving home while authorities continue their investigation into the robbery attempt.
