In an exciting development for fans of the NCIS franchise, LL Cool J is set to return to his role as Special Agent Sam Hanna in the forthcoming series, NCIS: New York. The series is scheduled to premiere in the autumn of 2026, as confirmed by CBS during their announcement in April 2026. This latest expansion of the NCIS universe follows Hanna as he makes a return to his roots in New York City, where he will work from the local NCIS field office.

LL Cool J, who first embodied the character of Sam Hanna in NCIS: Los Angeles, which aired from 2009 to 2023, expressed excitement about reprising the role. Speaking to PEOPLE at CBS Fest, he mentioned, “I’ve been kind of on and off doing the character all along,” referring to his appearances in various NCIS series. His longstanding connection to the character has allowed him to continue exploring Hanna’s complexities over the years.
Joining LL Cool J in the ensemble cast is Scott Caan, who will portray a “roguish agent” named Nick Schaeffer. Caan has a history with the franchise, having guest-starred in an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles during a crossover event with Hawaii Five-0, the show in which he starred for ten seasons. His character is expected to bring a new dynamic to the series as the story unfolds.
Jennifer Beals will also be taking on a significant role as Robyn Wells, the director of the NCIS New York field office. Beals, well known for her previous work, took to Instagram to share her enthusiasm about joining the project, stating, “My heart is filled with so much G R A T I T U D E.” Her character is expected to provide leadership and guidance to the newly formed team of agents.
The series will also include Jacqueline Byers, who plays agent Addison “Addy” Ross, depicted as a tough and resourceful individual with much to prove. Shane Harper takes on the role of Wyatt Hill, characterised as a “fearless agent and a hopeless romantic,” while Devin Druid, known for 13 Reasons Why, will portray Sean Sullivan, a witty tech specialist with a rebellious streak against authority.
The premise of NCIS: New York centres on Special Agent Sam Hanna returning to his hometown, where he will navigate the challenges of law enforcement in one of the world’s most vibrant cities. The dynamic between Hanna and his new partner Schaeffer promises to be a focal point of the series, adding fresh intrigue to the established franchise.
Filming for NCIS: New York is set to take place on location in New York City. Production is expected to commence in late July 2026, allowing the series to capture the authentic atmosphere of the city while narrating its story. This return to a real-world setting is anticipated to enhance the show’s appeal to both new viewers and longstanding fans of the NCIS brand.
While an official release date has yet to be announced, NCIS: New York is slated to air on CBS on Tuesday evenings at 9 p.m. ET, following NCIS at 8 p.m. ET and NCIS: Origins at 10 p.m. ET. Episodes will be available for streaming on Paramount+ the following day, providing fans with multiple options for viewing.
The arrival of NCIS: New York is set to inject new life into the beloved franchise, with familiar characters and an exciting new storyline.
