A tragic incident in Lithonia, Georgia, has left a family devastated after a pregnant woman lost her life in an ATV accident. Domunique Kindred, 28, who was a devoted mother to her two young children, was riding the all-terrain vehicle when the accident occurred on June 23. Her family members are now advocating for greater safety measures regarding ATV usage following this heartbreaking event.

Domunique’s sister, Alexis Kindred, recounted the event to FOX 5 Atlanta, explaining that Domunique was navigating the ATV down a street towards their home when she needed to swerve to avoid an oncoming vehicle. During the manoeuvre, she collided with a mailbox, and the impact caused her to veer into a parked car. The collision resulted in the ATV flipping, leaving Domunique unconscious on the ground.

Details surrounding the accident highlight that Domunique was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash—a fact that became a focal point for her family in their appeals for improved ATV safety. After being rushed to the hospital, Domunique succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
Domunique was a caring mother to a five-year-old son named Yosiah and a four-month-old baby named Kanan, and she had recently discovered that she was pregnant with her third child. Prior to this tragedy, she had successfully graduated from cosmetology school, a testament to her ambition and hard work. Alexis described her sister as light-hearted and humorous, consistently managing to uplift others around her, even in challenging situations.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with Domunique’s funeral and burial expenses. The initiative has garnered widespread support, with family members expressing how deeply her loss is felt. They remarked on her ability to bring joy and laughter into the lives of those she encountered, emphasizing that her spirit would never be forgotten. “She had a way of making people smile even during difficult times,” they wrote, sharing fond memories of her vibrant personality.
In the aftermath of this tragic accident, Domunique’s family is highlighting the critical importance of safety precautions while riding ATVs. Her father, Ralph Kindred, shared how he was on his way to visit his daughter with helmets intended for her use at the time of the incident. He stressed the imperative need for riders to don protective gear, including helmets, to mitigate the risks associated with off-road vehicles. “You don’t know how much that will help your life,” he stated, mourning the loss of his daughter who departed far too soon.
Ralph’s urgent message resonated with Alexis as well, who added that the tragedy could have been avoided with the use of a helmet, reinforcing the hope that other families might be spared from similar pain in the future. “This is, like my father said, the worst feeling in the world,” she expressed, emphasising their desire for increased awareness around ATV safety.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission offers guidance to ATV and off-highway vehicle riders, advocating that all riders utilise proper protective equipment at all times. Recommendations include wearing helmets, eye protection, sturdy boots, gloves, and appropriate clothing. Additionally, the Commission advises riders to refrain from exceeding the vehicle’s passenger capacity, avoid paved roads, and never operate ATVs under the influence of alcohol. For youthful riders, it suggests using models that are appropriate for their age and skill level.
Domunique’s father conveyed the harrowing emotional turmoil of losing a child, stating, “This is the toughest battle a parent has to fight to bury their child.” He reflected on a poignant moment, recalling how he was able to give her a final kiss goodbye, a memory he believes will remain with him forever. As her family grapples with this profound loss, they continue to echo the importance of safety, hoping to prevent further tragedies in the future.
