The tragic discovery came on July 8 when investigators from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Desloge Police Department were conducting inquiries into the case. The police were alerted to the child’s disappearance when the child’s mother filed an initial report indicating that her child had last been seen in the custody of the father in May 2024.

Ronnell Marquese Jones, the child’s father, is one of the two individuals arrested in connection with this case. The 32-year-old provided investigators with a claim that the child was residing in an Amish community in Mississippi and that he had seen the child recently. This led authorities to interview several persons in an attempt to establish the child’s whereabouts.

As the investigation drew on, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department determined that parental kidnapping charges were necessary and submitted an application to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office in early 2025. The case shifted significantly when the Desloge Police Department became involved at the end of June 2026, following an additional report from the mother. This report presumably reignited efforts to locate the child, ultimately leading investigators to uncover the remains in Illinois.
Amid this continuing investigation, a warrant for Jones’ arrest was executed on June 30, with authorities taking him into custody. Concurrently, Kirstie Dora, a 35-year-old woman, was also arrested two days later, on July 2. While both face charges of parental kidnapping and harassment, the exact nature of Dora’s connection to the child remains unclear.
At present, both individuals are being held without bond. The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office is working diligently to establish the identity of the child’s remains so that the family can receive closure. The police departments involved have expressed their deep sympathies to the family and acknowledging the immense grief and frustration they are experiencing in light of the circumstances.
The police statement emphasised understanding for the mother’s anguish and the community’s demand for clarity and accountability during such a harrowing investigation. In their words, “No parent should ever endure this kind of uncertainty.”
As further details emerge, local authorities have committed to maintaining transparency in the investigation, with the expectation of providing answers to the community and those affected by this tragic event. The ongoing inquiry continues to reflect broader societal concerns about child welfare and the complexities surrounding custody disputes.
The case is ongoing, and the police have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
