Authorities have confirmed that a Florida man reported missing in May has been identified as the individual whose remains were discovered buried in a shallow grave. Jason Christopher Coulthart, aged 43, was last seen on May 24 leaving a property in Niceville, Florida. The investigation into his disappearance has since led to a murder charge against a woman now evading capture.

According to a statement released by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office on July 10, detectives received leads during their investigation that suggested Coulthart’s body had been interred on a site off Sunset Lane in Freeport. Acting on the information, police secured a search warrant and uncovered the remains later that day. The forensic analysis conducted by the District 1 Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the remains as belonging to Coulthart via DNA testing.

This troubling development has left the Niceville community in shock. Niceville Police Chief Mark Hayse expressed his deep condolences for Coulthart’s family, stating, “This is not the news we hoped to deliver to our Niceville community. We stand with Jason’s family and will continue working closely with our partners to see this case through.”
Isabelle Rose Johnson, 38, is currently wanted on an open count of murder in connection with Coulthart’s death. The sheriff’s office has indicated that she is actively evading law enforcement officials. Description details released identify Johnson as 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing approximately 120 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Investigators have noted that she maintains links to both Freeport and Georgia and may be utilising several aliases, including Harley, Jessica Elaine Bowman, Jessica Elaine Thrush, Jessica Elaine Trash, and Jessica Dowdy.
In connection with Johnson, three individuals have already been charged as accessories to the crime. Martin and Sandra Leaverton, both 63 years of age, have been charged with accessory after the fact to a capital felony. They are accused of aiding Johnson in her attempts to evade law enforcement. A third person, 31-year-old Bobbie Wagstaff, was previously apprehended and charged with accessory after the fact to a capital felony, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
Sheriff Michael Adkinson highlighted the commitment of the authorities to pursue all involved parties, stating, “The next step in this investigation is to hold every single person involved in Jason’s death accountable. If they knew, if they helped, or if they chose not to speak up, they will have to answer for their role in this.” However, the sheriff’s office has not disclosed further details regarding Coulthart’s cause or manner of death, nor has it provided any information about the potential motive behind the crime.
Investigators are urging the public to remain vigilant. If anyone encounters Johnson, they should refrain from approaching her and should contact emergency services immediately. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office has also encouraged those with information regarding her whereabouts to get in touch at 850-892-8111, while anonymous tips can be submitted via Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS.
As the investigation continues, community members are left grappling with the tragic loss of Coulthart and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the case. Authorities are hopeful that the involvement of the public may assist in bringing Johnson to justice and shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
