Carmella Garcia, the latest addition to the cast of The Real Housewives of Orange County, has recently opened up about her past as a Playboy model. In a candid conversation during the show’s 20th season, Garcia addressed persistent speculations regarding her relationship with Hugh Hefner, revealing that she never slept with the iconic figure, a query often raised by viewers and fans alike.

The revealing moment occurred during a car ride to a party hosted by fellow cast member Heather Dubrow, where Garcia was joined by Jennifer Pedranti. Pedranti, who has quickly formed a bond with Garcia, expressed admiration for her, labelling her as having “a little bit of an edge.” The pair’s exchange provided insight into Garcia’s unique experience during her time at the highly publicised Playboy Mansion.

Despite the glamour often associated with modelling for Playboy, Garcia clarified that she resided in the Bunny House, located across the street from the main mansion. Addressing questions about her experiences, Pedranti directly asked whether Garcia had enjoyed her time with Hefner, to which Garcia responded humorously, making it clear that she had not been involved with him romantically.
Transitioning from Ohio to Los Angeles at the age of eighteen, Garcia pursued her modelling ambitions full-force. Her Playboy journey commenced when she was a finalist on the 2002 reality special, Who Wants to Be a Playboy Centerfold. Although she initially chose to withdraw, a personal invitation from Hefner to one of his birthday celebrations prompted her to seize the opportunity. Eventually, she made her mark by becoming Playboy’s Miss April in 2003 and earning the title of Playmate of the Year the following year.
Her career within the entertainment industry has brought her a variety of opportunities, including appearances on the E! network’s The Girls Next Door, a notable finish in the WWE Diva Search, and a feature in the prestigious Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2008. However, Garcia has shared that joining the cast of RHOC was a decision met with some hesitation. She admitted that she didn’t feel her experiences were in line with the conventional portrayal of a ‘Housewife’.
“I’ve spent years trying to fit into a box,” Garcia told PEOPLE. She recognised that her life is anything but traditional, and she is now embracing her past with pride. Her departure from her comfort zone has resulted in what she describes as a transformative experience, allowing her to connect deeply with both the cast and crew.
Garcia quickly developed a friendship with Pedranti, stemming from a shared connection through their hairstylist. This early camaraderie seemed to set the tone for her journey on the show. Reflecting on her time in front of the cameras, she remarked, “It’s the first time I’m like, ‘Okay, I need to sit in this and move through it.’”
As an individual, Garcia has characterised herself as “sarcastic,” “loyal,” and “maybe a little sensitive.” While her earlier experiences in modelling and wrestling have equipped her to navigate public attention, she humbly acknowledged that nothing could quite prepare her for the dynamics of The Real Housewives of Orange County.
One of her standout revelations was the unexpected connection she formed with the production crew, highlighting the familiar yet bizarre nature of her new reality. “After filming wrapped, I called Jennifer and I’m like, ‘Somebody touch my boobs, please! I want somebody to put a mic on me,’” she quipped, illustrating her adjustment to life outside the Bravo spotlight.
Carmella Garcia is also a mother to four children from her previous marriage to NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia: Presley, Jason, Jax, and Faith. As the new season progresses, she expressed hope that audiences will see and appreciate her multifaceted personality, asking for understanding as she navigates this next chapter of her life.
“I just hope that the viewers get me,” Garcia stated, adding that the transition into this new role is not without its challenges. She appears eager to showcase both her journey and her authentic self as The Real Housewives of Orange County continues to air weekly on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo, with episodes available for streaming the following day on Peacock.
