Jeremy Scheublin, a 24-year veteran of the New York Police Department (NYPD), has been suspended following serious allegations of sexual assault made against him by a fellow officer. The suspension was confirmed by an NYPD spokesperson on July 4, amidst ongoing legal proceedings initiated by the officer in the Bronx Supreme Court.

The lawsuit, which has garnered significant attention, alleges that Scheublin assaulted a 34-year-old female officer in January 2025. According to reports, the incident occurred while both officers were on duty in Scheublin’s office at the NYPD’s 46th Precinct in the Bronx. The officer, who is also a single mother of two, claims that during the encounter, Scheublin grabbed her buttocks, forcibly pushed her onto a couch, and attempted to kiss her while armed.
The complaint details a disturbing scenario where it is alleged that Scheublin put his hand around the officer’s neck and attempted to remove her gun belt. In a desperate act of self-defence, she reportedly fought him off by kicking him in the groin before escaping his office. The lawsuit states that she feared for her safety, believing that he might rape her if she did not resist.
Following the alleged assault, it is reported that Scheublin made a troubling comment, expressing a desire to “make biracial babies” with her. The officer promptly reported the incident to the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, setting into motion a complex series of events.
Prior to the assault, the officer stated in her complaint that she had been subject to various unwanted advances from Scheublin. These included comments about her appearance and unsolicited phone calls when she was off duty. She reportedly felt increasingly uncomfortable, even going so far as to block his number and skip social events to avoid him.
The officer further alleges that following her report to Internal Affairs, she faced retaliation from Scheublin, who is accused of assigning her to inconvenient shifts and altering her work assignments. She claims that the NYPD was made aware of the allegations for an extended period yet failed to take timely action against Scheublin. Despite the gravity of the allegations, he remained in his position until 2026.
The legal representative for the officer, John Scola, has publicly expressed discontent with the NYPD’s handling of the case, stating that a victim of sexual assault should not be forced to compromise their career as a result of reporting the crime. Scola highlighted that the NYPD’s delay in addressing the allegations subjected his client to additional suffering and anxiety.
Scheublin had reportedly filed for retirement last month, with his attorney Oliver Storch indicating that this decision was made to alleviate distractions for the NYPD and to allow Scheublin to focus on defending himself against what he claims are false allegations. Storch expressed hope that the public would reserve judgment until the completion of legal proceedings.
The NYPD announced that Scheublin’s suspension took effect following the filing of his retirement paperwork. As the case unfolds, attention will remain on the department’s response to the allegations and the broader implications for workplace conduct and accountability within the police force.
As public scrutiny continues, the issue of handling sexual assault allegations within law enforcement is drawing renewed focus, raising questions about the mechanisms in place for protecting victims and ensuring justice. The NYPD has yet to release further statements regarding the allegations or the steps that may be taken in response to this serious case.
