On 21 June, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office received emergency calls reporting that a child had been found unresponsive in a pool on Ketron Road. As deputies and emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene, they sprang into action, administering vital care to the distressed toddler, later identified as Liam. Fortunately, EMS personnel were able to stabilise him before he was transported to Cook Children’s Medical Center. He is now expected to make a full recovery.

The initial investigation revealed that Patrick was the first to discover his younger brother submerged in the pool. Without pausing to think, the seven-year-old hero bravely pulled Liam from the water. Realising the gravity of the situation, Patrick swiftly summoned their mother before rushing to a neighbour’s house to seek additional assistance.
Lieutenant Keven George from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office praised Patrick’s extraordinary actions during this critical moment. He remarked on the young boy’s composure, highlighting that “in moments of crisis, even adults can freeze under pressure.” He continued, stating, “Patrick did the opposite. He remained focused, acted with urgency, and demonstrated a level of courage, awareness, and determination far beyond his years.”
Patrick’s extraordinary efforts did not go unnoticed. In recognition of his heroism, deputies have put forward a nomination for him to receive a Sheriff’s Commendation Award. This nomination is set to be presented at the Sheriff’s Office’s next meeting. If approved, Patrick will receive both an award and a pin to honour his brave act.
The incident serves as a powerful reminder that heroism can manifest at any age. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office expressed its pride in Patrick’s actions, stating, “Our entire Sheriff’s Office family is incredibly proud of Patrick. His selflessness, courage, and love for his little brother serve as a powerful reminder that heroes come in all ages and sizes.”
