A mother from Florida has expressed her profound distress after discovering that her four-year-old son was reportedly left behind at a Chuck E. Cheese during a summer camp outing. Kasheena McKee-Kimbrough enrolled her child, Kireh, in a summer camp hosted by ALM Sports Bradenton, hoping it would ease his transition into voluntary prekindergarten this autumn. However, a recent incident has left her feeling confused and devastated.

According to Ms McKee-Kimbrough, the troubling event occurred three weeks into the camp. During a trip to Chuck E. Cheese, Kireh recounted to his mother that he had been accidentally abandoned inside the family entertainment centre. After disembarking from a ride, the young boy realised that his group had departed without him. He claimed to have spent about twenty minutes alone before a restaurant employee intervened and eventually informed a camp staff member, who returned to collect him.
Expressing her concerns, Ms McKee-Kimbrough conveyed her disappointment that none of the camp staff had informed her about the incident. “So I trusted that they would say something, but I didn’t hear anything,” she stated, reflecting on her dismay after speaking to the camp owner, who also appeared unaware of the situation. The incident has prompted her to withdraw Kireh from the summer camp entirely, and she is now in the process of finding alternative childcare to balance her work commitments.

Kireh, reflecting on his ordeal, described the feelings he experienced: “I was doomed. I thought I was lost forever.” His mother indicated that this experience has left him feeling anxious, stating that he knew his mother was “stressed out for the rest of the week”. The emotional toll of the incident extends beyond the child, as Ms McKee-Kimbrough has openly shared her feelings of anger and sadness, emphasising the lack of respect shown towards her son. “They brushed him off like, ‘Hey, we left this kid, but who cares?’” she lamented.
Following the incident, Alvin Murray, the CEO of ALM Sports, expressed regret over the matter and confirmed that a meticulous review of safety protocols is now underway. The review aims to reacquaint staff with headcount procedures and reinforce safety policies to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future. “We are retraining our staff on our safety protocols to ensure that this does not happen again,” he reassured in an interview.

Moreover, the local authorities have also taken notice of the incident. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has assigned its crimes against children unit to investigate what transpired at the camp, and notifications have been sent to the Florida Department of Children and Families regarding the occurrence.
The wider community’s reaction to this distressing episode highlights a persistent concern for child safety in recreational settings. Ms McKee-Kimbrough hopes that by sharing her story, she can engender positive change and reinforce the importance of accountability and safety in childcare environments.
As parents and guardians place their trust in summer camps and other facilities, incidents like this serve as critical reminders of the paramount need for vigilance and proper protocols to safeguard children. While some parents may opt to remove their children from such camps, others may advocate for immediate corrective actions to ensure future safety for all children involved.
As investigations continue, both the affected family and community await answers and assurances that effective measures will be implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
