Six Flags Over Texas has announced that its newest roller coaster, the Tormenta Rampaging Run, will officially open to the public on July 9, following an unexpected delay caused by extended safety testing. Initially slated for a debut on June 26, the park decided to postpone the opening to ensure that all safety measures were rigorously evaluated.

As the world’s tallest, fastest, longest, and first-ever giga dive coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run is set to redefine the thrill-seeking landscape at Six Flags Over Texas. The new ride boasts an impressive 285-foot drop and features six world records, including both the fastest dive coaster, reaching speeds of 87 mph, and the longest dive coaster with a track length of 4,199 feet.

Park officials disclosed on social media that the commissioning process—the final stage of testing—was taking longer than anticipated. “While this means pausing our current opening timeline, it ensures that when Tormenta charges out of the gates, it will be a ride experience worthy of its name,” the park stated. This careful approach reflects a commitment to safety, as crews work diligently to confirm that all mechanical, electrical, and control systems meet industry standards.
The attraction draws inspiration from the Spanish tradition of running with the bulls. Riders will ascend to a height of 309 feet, offering spectacular views over Arlington and the broader Dallas-Fort Worth area. In keeping with the theme, the ride vehicle will linger for three seconds at the apex before plunging into the thrilling descent.
In addition to its remarkable features, the Tormenta Rampaging Run includes the tallest vertical loop at 179 feet, the highest beyond-vertical drop at 285 feet, and the highest Immelmann inversion at 218 feet. These innovative design elements are anticipated to elevate the coaster to a prominent position within the global amusement park scene.
In late May, park representatives released the first footage of Tormenta Rampaging Run in action as it entered its testing phase, showcasing its impressive mechanics and exhilarating potential. “Tormenta Rampaging Run is set to forever change not only the Arlington skyline, but the full lineup of thrills only offered at Six Flags Over Texas,” said park president Pete Carmichael in a recent statement.
The new coaster will be part of a broader themed area named Rancho de la Tormenta, designed to evoke the charm of a secluded Spanish village. The area will feature vibrant banners and lively Spanish music, creating an immersive experience for visitors.
The July 9 opening will coincide with the park’s year-long celebration of its 65th anniversary. This milestone marks not only the launch of the Tormenta Rampaging Run but also an array of new entertainment, food and beverage options, ride enhancements, and various park improvements.
As Six Flags Over Texas gears up for the grand unveiling of the Tormenta Rampaging Run, excitement is palpable among thrill-seekers and park enthusiasts alike. With a commitment to delivering an exhilarating, safe, and unforgettable experience, the anticipation for this record-breaking coaster continues to build.
