A recent report published by Consumer Reports has unveiled the best establishments for purchasing rotisserie chicken. Topping the list is Sam’s Club, whose Member’s Mark Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken was praised for its flavour and overall quality. This evaluation included a comparison of rotisserie chickens sold at ten different retailers across the United States, factoring in taste, sodium content, and packaging materials.

The assessment, which was released on June 23, highlighted that Sam’s Club excelled in a rigorous evaluation of its product, outperforming its competitors on multiple levels. The report recognised the chicken’s signature paprika rub, which contributes to its distinct flavour profile. The seasoning features a blend of natural flavours, salt, sodium phosphate, and sugar, alongside a sodium content of 430 mg per serving. According to the report, the paprika rub not only enhances the aesthetics of the bird with an appealing bronzed appearance, but it also infuses the meat with a moist, juicy texture and a rich roasted flavour, complemented by hints of onion and garlic.
Shana DeSmit, the divisional merchandise manager for meat and seafood at Sam’s Club, noted the importance of their rotisserie chicken to many families. “We take that responsibility seriously when it comes to flavour and freshness,” DeSmit commented in an interview with USA Today. She underscored the commitment of Sam’s Club to provide consistently seasoned and high-quality rotisserie chickens at a price that offers genuine value to its members.

Following closely behind Sam’s Club is Costco, with its Kirkland Signature Seasoned Rotisserie Chicken earning the second position. Consumer Reports described these chickens as notably plump and well-seasoned, with variations in saltiness that appeal to diverse palates. The review underlined the quality of Costco’s offering, which has long been a staple for shoppers at the wholesale retailer.

Rounding out the top three is Stop & Shop, whose Whole Rotisserie Chicken received a mixed review regarding its appearance. The report noted that while the skin on some samples appeared shrivelled or slightly burnt, the taste of the chicken exceeded expectations. Consumer Reports described the meat as tender and full of flavour, highlighting that taste can sometimes transcend appearance.
In the subsequent rankings, Walmart’s Traditional Fully-Cooked Rotisserie Chicken and Wegmans Whole Roasted Chicken occupied the fourth and fifth spots respectively. Whole Foods Market’s Classic Rotisserie Chicken was positioned sixth, demonstrating the variety of options available for consumers seeking quality rotisserie chicken.
Consumer Reports also provided additional recommendations for those searching for the best rotisserie chicken. Coming in seventh place was BJ’s Wellsley Farms Whole Rotisserie Chicken. This was followed by Hannaford’s Original Rotisserie Chicken in eighth, ShopRite Bowl & Basket All-Natural Whole Rotisserie Chicken securing ninth, and The Fresh Market’s Roasted Natural Chicken in tenth place.
The findings from this report not only highlight the diversity of offerings across popular retailers but also indicate a growing recognition among consumers for quality and nutrition in prepared foods. The analysis conducted by Consumer Reports serves as a guide for consumers looking to make informed choices regarding their purchases, particularly in a market increasingly focused on health and convenience.
Overall, the rankings reflect the importance of flavour and quality in the highly competitive rotisserie chicken market. With an array of options available, shoppers can be assured of finding a delicious and satisfying meal that meets their dietary preferences and budget constraints.
