Rush, the iconic rock band known for their intricate sound and thoughtful lyrics, announced the postponement of two scheduled performances in Fort Worth, Texas. This decision has come in response to lead vocalist and bassist Geddy Lee’s recent health issues, specifically a diagnosis of laryngitis and bronchitis.

On Tuesday, June 30, Rush took to social media to inform fans that their shows originally planned for that evening and July 2 at Dickies Arena would need to be rescheduled. In the statement shared via Facebook, the band conveyed their regret and explained the circumstances behind this difficult decision.

“We are deeply sorry to share that we must postpone our June 30 and July 2 shows,” the band stated. They elaborated that medical advice indicated Lee required extra rest to recuperate before returning to the stage, underscoring the seriousness of his condition. After more than five decades in the music industry, the group emphasised their commitment to delivering top-tier performances, noting that it would not be possible in Lee’s current state.

The announcement came as a distressing surprise for many fans who had made travel arrangements and eagerly anticipated attending the concerts. “We understand how disappointing this news is,” the band’s statement continued. “We know many of you have made travel plans and have been counting down the days to these shows. Please know this decision was not made lightly.”
In an effort to minimise inconvenience, Rush confirmed that the June 30 concert has been rescheduled for July 11, while the July 2 performance has been moved to July 13. Existing ticket holders can use their purchased tickets for the new dates, and those unable to attend will have the opportunity to request refunds based on their original point of purchase.
This latest setback follows closely on the heels of an earlier postponement for a show originally slated for June 24 in Fort Worth, which was moved to July 2 due to “unforeseen travel and border-related delays” experienced following their performances in Mexico City. At that time, the band expressed gratitude for the understanding of their fans given circumstances beyond their control.
Rush has been on their Fifty Something tour since launching in Inglewood, California, on June 7. The U.S. leg of the tour is set to continue until December, delighting fans with a range of classic numbers and fresh material. The current touring lineup includes Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer Anika Nilles, who stepped in after the passing of Neil Peart in early 2020.
Looking ahead, the band is planning an international tour for 2027, giving fans even more to anticipate in the coming years. Despite the recent health challenges, Rush remains committed to providing memorable live experiences and appreciates the unwavering support from their dedicated audience.
As Geddy Lee focuses on recovery, the band encourages fans to stay tuned for updates and further announcements related to the rescheduled concerts. Their message reflects a sentiments of unity, with the band and their audience sharing the common hope for Lee’s swift return to health and the stage.
In these uncertain times within the touring industry, fan understanding and patience are more vital than ever, reinforcing the bond between artist and audience. For now, the band turns its energy towards healing, with plans to return to Fort Worth with renewed vigor in July.
