A woman has tragically been found deceased after going missing while searching for golf balls in a pond in Maine. The body of 47-year-old Bette Reilly, from Westbrook, was discovered on June 28, following a search operation initiated shortly after she was reported missing.

Emergency services were called to the Pleasant Hill Driving Range in Scarborough at around 2:30 PM local time when concerned individuals reported Reilly’s disappearance. Officials indicated that she was last seen near 9 Pond View Drive, close to the edge of the pond.
According to Scarborough Fire Chief Rich Kindelan, Reilly had been searching for golf balls in the water prior to her disappearance. Witnesses indicated that she had been walking along the pond’s edge when she was last seen. Alarm bells began to ring approximately 20 minutes after Reilly went out of sight, prompting a frantic call to local authorities.

A search operation was promptly launched, with the Maine Warden Service Dive Team dispatched to the scene. Within approximately 30 minutes of beginning their search, responders located Reilly’s body submerged in around 9 feet of water. Unfortunately, she was declared dead at the scene.
