During an episode of The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast, Rich recounted directing these emotionally charged sequences shortly after Cuoco and Galecki had ended their own romantic relationship.

Rich’s remarks were made during a discussion about the episode “The Spaghetti Catalyst,” which aired in April 2010. In this episode, Cuoco’s character Penny and Galecki’s Leonard face the aftermath of their breakup, which had occurred in the previous episode, “The Wheaton Recurrence.” Cuoco and Galecki had dated for approximately two years before parting ways just a few weeks prior to filming this particular scene.

The emotional strain was palpable, as Rich noted in his conversation with host Jessica Radloff. “Being a professional, she was really tough about it,” Rich recounted.
