**Unexpected Arrival: Local Couple Welcomes Twin Boys on the Side of the Road**

In a remarkable turn of events, local couple Danielle and Matt Hickman found themselves delivering their twin boys on the roadside during what was meant to be a routine trip to the hospital. The family, which includes a 2-year-old son, experienced an extraordinary day in Perinton, New York on June 17.

Danielle, who had been preparing for a scheduled cesarean section on July 22, suddenly went into labour when her water broke at home. Despite the plans in place for a hospital birth, the situation quickly escalated during their drive. Contractions intensified, prompting Danielle to request her husband to pull over on Route 31.

“Contractions were happening every one to two minutes,” Danielle recounted. “I felt an overwhelming pressure and knew we needed to stop.” As they parked safely by the roadside, Matt immediately dialled for assistance, but little did they know that they would not make it to the hospital.

Once the car was stationary, Matt took the initiative to deliver the first twin, who would be named Noah. “In a matter of moments, ‘baby A’ was born,” Danielle reminisced. “Matt was incredible; he held Noah close to my chest, keeping him warm.”

Noah made his grand entrance at 10:17 am, shortly followed by his twin brother Parker just eight minutes later. The arrival of Parker, however, was a bit more complicated. He was in a breech position, meaning he was set to be delivered feet first rather than head first. By the time emergency responders arrived on the scene, they were instrumental in safely delivering Parker.

Paramedic Captain Kevin Gustina, who has nearly two decades of experience, recalled the intensity of the situation. “Parker’s head was stuck. We had to assist Danielle while applying a bit of pressure to ensure a safe delivery,” he explained. “It was thrilling to see both babies delivered in such a challenging circumstance. This is a day I will never forget.”

Following the births, both Noah and Parker were assessed by paramedics before the family made their way to Highland Hospital for further evaluation. Fortunately, both boys were born healthy, and the couple expressed immense gratitude to the ambulance team and hospital staff for their swift actions.

Matt Hickman specifically thanked Perinton Ambulance and Highland Hospital for their life-saving interventions. “The expertise you all demonstrated allowed us to have the best possible outcome,” he said. “We greatly appreciate the quick response and professionalism shown that day.”

Perinton Ambulance Chief Robert Cieri expressed pride in his team’s response, admitting the situation had stirred strong emotions within him. “I get shivers just thinking about how proud I am of everybody involved,” he stated.

Now back at home, the Hickman family is settling into their new routine as parents of three boys. The couple is learning to navigate life with twin newborns alongside their energetic toddler. Danielle reflected on the experience, mentioning that instinct played a significant role in how they handled the unusual arrival of their sons. “I think we just naturally did what we knew how to do from my instincts,” she said.
