A man from Florida has been arrested following a violent incident involving his girlfriend, during which she was allegedly stabbed multiple times. Leisnier Mauri Garcia, aged 40, faces serious charges, including attempted felony murder with a deadly weapon. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a domestic dispute that occurred on June 21, while the couple was sharing time at an Airbnb.

According to local media sources, Garcia had been in a relationship with the unnamed woman for approximately six months, and while she described their relationship as generally positive, there had been previous instances of aggression exhibited by Garcia. The couple’s evening took a troubling turn when the woman received a text from her child’s father, which Garcia saw, sparking a heated argument that ultimately led to her decision to end the relationship.

Following the argument, the couple returned to their rented accommodation to gather their belongings. As they made their way back to their vehicle, Garcia insisted he needed to retrieve an item from inside. On his return, he chose to sit in the rear passenger seat, an act deemed unusual by the victim.

The situation escalated dramatically when, without warning, Garcia allegedly brandished a knife and began attacking the woman from behind. In a desperate attempt to escape, she opened the driver’s side door and exited the vehicle, pleading with him to stop the brutal assault.
Emergency services were summoned, and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, suffering a total of 34 stab wounds, including ten to her neck. Garcia himself was also treated for several cuts and abrasions sustained during the incident. His conditions raised questions about the events leading up to the attack, although he remained in police custody.
The investigation revealed that, despite what the woman described as a generally good relationship, there were concerning patterns of behaviour from Garcia. According to the arrest affidavit, there had been a previous instance where he attempted to assault her during a prior breakup that lasted two months. This context highlights ongoing concerns regarding domestic abuse and the risks faced by individuals in volatile relationships.
As of now, Garcia is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, without the possibility of bond. The legal proceedings are set to unfold, and the serious nature of the charges suggests that Garcia could face significant consequences if convicted.
Local authorities, as well as organisations dealing with domestic violence, have underscored the importance of recognising the signs of abusive relationships and encourage anyone facing similar circumstances to seek help. The case has brought renewed attention to the pressing issue of domestic violence, emphasising the need for continued awareness and preventive measures throughout communities.
As the investigation continues, the Miami Police Department has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the case, which remains a matter of keen public interest. The community responds to the severity of the incident with a mix of shock and concern, reinforcing the need for preventative action in domestic situations that could escalate into violence.
