Harlen’s interactions with the young girl reportedly commenced via the social media platform TikTok on 9 May. According to court documents reviewed by local media, he engaged in a conversation with the girl, who mistakenly claimed to be 13 years old. Despite this misconception, Harlen allegedly persisted with their communications, which eventually extended to text messaging.

As the conversations progressed, Harlen reportedly introduced sexually explicit content. An affidavit cited by the Texarkana Gazette revealed that during a game of truth or dare, the dialogue took a disturbing turn when Harlen sent an explicit photograph of himself to the girl. It remains unclear whether these exchanges occurred on TikTok or through text messages.

In an attempt to distance herself from Harlen, the young girl expressed her discomfort and subsequently blocked his number. However, Harlen allegedly did not cease his advances. Instead, he reached out to her again using a different phone number. Documents indicate that when the girl informed him she would not reconnect, Harlen responded with intimidation.
The accused is reported to have sent her a brief video displaying what appeared to be a firearm, alongside additional weapons visible in the shot. He allegedly threatened her by saying, “You won’t be exiting [sic] me buddy. I already found ya’ll [sic] matter of time when yall [sic] hear these guns blast through your house,” as outlined in the affidavit.
Authorities managed to track Halren down in Texas, where they apprehended him based on the information retrieved from his phone number. The charges against him include sexual extortion, grooming a minor for future sex trafficking, sexual indecency with a child, and making threats that could be deemed terroristic in nature. Additionally, he is charged with the unlawful use of a communication device.
Following his arrest, there has been no indication of a plea or any representation from an attorney in connection with the case. The seriousness of these accusations has drawn attention, highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding child safety in online environments.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks children may encounter while using social media platforms. Officials continue to emphasise the need for comprehensive parental guidance and monitoring.
In the wake of these events, the community has been urged to remain vigilant, encouraging reporting of any suspicious online behaviour involving minors. As investigations proceed, authorities are focusing on addressing and preventing such incidents, aiming to protect vulnerable individuals from potential exploitation.
This case remains under investigation, and further developments are expected as authorities delve deeper into the allegations against Harlen. The situation has sparked discussions regarding the responsibilities of social media companies, particularly in safeguarding their youngest users from predatory behaviour online.
