He convinced Melnyk to visit the farm under the guise of a family photoshoot, even hinting that they should dress up for the occasion. However, unbeknownst to her, there was no photographer; instead, his mother was hiding nearby, capturing the precious moment on film.
As Melnyk arrived at the farm, they listened to their special song, “Only You Can Love Me This Way,” by Keith Urban. She was greeted with over 30 carefully placed signs lining the path, which conveyed a sweet message of love and the ultimate question. McKay led Melnyk to a beautiful wooden arch that he had constructed, adorned with white curtains and gold frames showcasing photos of their beloved pets, four cats and one dog, alongside the engagement ring. A charming sign at the top read, “Mom, will you marry Dad?” This scene brought tears of joy to Melnyk, who described the proposal as “perfect” and immensely thoughtful.

As a Grade 1 teacher, her students found the entire situation amusing, enhancing the joyful atmosphere surrounding her engagement story. “I love a good hot dog, I love quirky nails, and it suits my personality, so everyone thought it was perfect,” she shared.
