Father Dies Days After Being Restrained by Fellow Passengers on Flight Following Argument with His Girlfriend

A tragic incident aboard a flight to Manchester has resulted in the death of a father in his 30s, Callum Kerr. His family confirmed his passing days after he was restrained by fellow passengers and subsequently hospitalised following a disruption during the journey.

Kerr, who hailed from Warrington, was returning from Larnaca in Cyprus on a Jet2 flight alongside his girlfriend. On June 21, 2023, the flight experienced significant turbulence due to Kerr’s behaviour, leading to an incident in which he reportedly headbutted another passenger and made threats towards others onboard.

Witnesses described a tense atmosphere as staff intervened, relocating Kerr’s girlfriend to ensure her safety. Mateusz Szymanski, a bystander, noted that as the situation escalated, other passengers had to physically restrain him, preventing further disruptions.

Upon landing at Manchester Airport in the early hours of June 22, police were alerted to the situation. Officers boarded the aircraft shortly after it arrived at around 2:25 a.m. local time and found Kerr in a critical condition, unresponsive due to lack of oxygen. Immediate medical attention was administered on the scene, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of a defibrillator before he was transported to a nearby hospital.

Initially, police reported that Kerr was in a “stable but critical condition.” However, his health deteriorated, and he passed away after several days in the medical facility. The incident has prompted an investigation by police to determine the causes and sequence of events leading to his passing.

The Greater Manchester Police confirmed the investigation’s status, addressing that they were looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident, highlighting reports of Kerr’s “aggressive and disruptive behaviour” towards both a fellow passenger and airline staff.

Family and friends have taken to social media to express their sorrow and disbelief following Kerr’s passing. A heartfelt tribute on Facebook conveyed the deep loss felt by loved ones. One friend remarked, “Can’t believe I’m writing this, RIP Callum Kerr,” while another shared a memory of their time together in the gym, recalling their last encounter and saying, “Till we meet again my brother.”

In response to the incident, a Jet2 spokesperson acknowledged the presence of an individual who required hospital care. Manchester Airport directed media inquiries towards Greater Manchester Police and Jet2 for further information and comment.
