Victim Body Slams Attacker in Attempted Prom Dress Heist at Georgia Gas Station, Police Say

In a dramatic incident at a gas station in Georgia, a young woman fought off attackers in an attempted prom dress heist, leading to a physical altercation that was caught on surveillance footage. According to reports from Fox 5 Atlanta and WSB-TV 2, three women were involved in the incident, which resulted in arrests and charges being filed.

The altercation occurred on February 26 when an 18-year-old victim met with her former friend, 20-year-old Morgan Flinchum, at a RaceTrac gas station near Norcross, GA, to sell her prom dress. However, things took a violent turn when two other women, Kaylee George and Leila DeJager, allegedly joined Flinchum in attempting to take the dress without paying, leading to a confrontation.

Surveillance footage of the incident showed the victim bravely defending herself and the dress, despite being outnumbered. In a remarkable display of strength, the petite 18-year-old managed to flip one of her attackers over, who then fell to the ground. The victim’s boyfriend was also seen trying to intervene and stop the altercation from escalating further.

Gwinnett County Cpl. Juan Madiedo described the incident as stemming from a dispute over the dress and money owed to one of the parties involved, which escalated into a physical confrontation. The police were called to the scene, and the women were subsequently arrested and charged with offences including theft by taking and battery.

According to reports, the prom dress originally belonged to Flinchum, but the victim had possession of it as her mother had helped pay for it. Flinchum had allegedly contacted the victim to buy back the dress, leading to the meeting at the gas station that turned violent. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in personal transactions, even in public places during daylight hours.

In response to the incident, Madiedo advised the public to use designated e-commerce parking areas provided by the police for safer transactions. These designated zones offer a secure location for people to meet and conduct exchanges, reducing the likelihood of disputes and potential conflicts like the one that unfolded at the gas station.

The Gwinnett County Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the incident. The bravery and quick thinking displayed by the young victim in defending herself during the attempted heist have garnered attention and praise, highlighting the importance of staying vigilant and cautious in all interactions, especially when it comes to personal transactions.
