In a remarkable feat of endurance and determination, Chad Caruso has skated from California to Florida in just 39 days, setting a new Guinness World Record and breaking his own previous mark. The journey covered approximately 3,000 miles from Venice, California, to Jacksonville, Florida, taking place between May 1 and June 8.

Caruso’s latest achievement not only showcases his dedication to the sport of skateboarding but also marks a significant personal milestone, as he celebrates ten years of sobriety. His journey served a dual purpose: to push his own limits and to raise awareness about addiction recovery and mental health challenges.
The previous record for this journey was set in 2023 when Caruso completed a 57-day trek from Venice to Virginia Beach, Virginia. He noted that his initial plan was to skate across Italy. However, after reassessing the situation and realising that no one had conducted a similar record-setting journey across the United States, he was inspired to take on the challenge in his home country.
Despite encountering significant hurdles prior to the trip, including a torn meniscus and a cyst, Caruso remained undeterred. Just two months before his embarkation, he suffered a further injury, which could have derailed his plans. After undergoing surgery and undergoing a rigorous recovery process, he was determined to proceed with his journey.
Funding the extensive trip entirely on credit, Caruso relied heavily on his own resources, but he was not alone. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the kindness of strangers along the way who provided him with essential support such as food, water, and even financial contributions.
Caruso explained the role skateboarding has played in his life, stating, “Skateboarding was the thing that kept me out of trouble. I did it my whole life. I was obsessed with it.” His achievements in the sport have not only been a source of personal joy but have also provided him a platform to inspire others who may be facing their own struggles.
As he navigated through varied terrain, from busy roads and highways to quaint small towns, Caruso found that the experience was transformative, further solidifying his commitment to both his sobriety and the sport he loves. He reflected on the pivotal moment a decade earlier when he chose to embrace a sober lifestyle, saying, “It completely changed everything.”
The success of this journey has opened up discussions regarding addiction recovery, mental health, and the importance of community support. Caruso’s endeavour serves as a beacon for many, illustrating how personal challenges can be transformed into triumphs.
With his sights set on the future, Caruso hopes to continue spreading awareness about addiction recovery and inspiring others through his story. His journey exemplifies resilience, showcasing not only the capabilities of the human spirit but also the profound effect of community support in overcoming life’s obstacles.
Chad Caruso’s achievement thus stands not just as a record but as a testament to the power of perseverance and the positive impact one individual can have in the realm of addiction recovery. As he continues to skateboard and share his message, he remains a symbol of hope for many facing similar struggles.
