Kelsey Parker Says Her Home Was Labeled a ‘Crime Scene’ After Son’s Stillbirth, Recalls Only Getting to Hold Him for 9 Minutes

Kelsey Parker, the widow of Tom Parker from the boy band The Wanted, has bravely opened up about the emotional trauma surrounding the stillbirth of her son, Phoenix, which took place during a home birth in June 2025. In a recent appearance on the British morning show This Morning, Kelsey shared the heart-wrenching details of that day, reflecting on her experience and the inadequacies she faced immediately following the birth.

During her interview, Kelsey explained how the birth unfolded at home, surrounded by her mother, aunt, partner Will Lindsay, and her two older children, Aurelia and Bodhi. She had initially planned for a peaceful home birth but was met with devastating circumstances when her midwife was unable to reach her in time. “I just went into natural labour at home, and it was all so quick,” she recalled. Tragically, when Phoenix was born, it was evident that he had not survived.

Following the birth, Kelsey and her family were forced to call emergency services. However, the aftermath of the situation escalated rapidly. Due to the absence of medical professionals to confirm their son’s death, the paramedics took the distressing step of involving the police, labelling her home a “crime scene.” “It was just horrendous, really, really horrendous how I was treated,” she explained, highlighting the shocking treatment her family endured at this devastating time.

Kelsey expressed deep sorrow over being separated from her son so quickly. “The paramedics arrived and they took Phoenix from me, so I only ever got to hold Phoenix for nine minutes,” she shared. As Phoenix was taken to the hospital, Kelsey was directed towards the maternity ward, a decision she found incredibly painful. “I actually pleaded with them,” she recounted. “Please don’t put me on the maternity ward where people are giving birth to babies that I am going to hear crying.”

The experience was compounded by the police’s presence in her home during such a vulnerable moment. “When I walked out of my house, the police walked in, and they called it a crime scene,” Kelsey remembered. The ordeal left her feeling distressed, particularly with her children present. She requested that the language used around her home be mindful of the little ones, but that was largely ignored.

The Metropolitan Police have since acknowledged the insensitivity of their actions in a public statement. They admitted that they acted inappropriately by categorising the home as a crime scene and confirmed that the family should have received far more compassionate treatment. A detective inspector has proposed a meeting with Kelsey and a child bereavement nurse to address their concerns and improve future protocols.

Though Kelsey has not yet been ready to meet with police officials, she did take the step of discussing her care with the ambulance service. However, she was left shocked by their responses. “They said they’re sorry, but their paramedics hadn’t seen a dead baby before,” she disclosed. This admission only compounded her feelings of despair; she explained how reliant she felt on the professionals in her time of need.

Despite the agonising loss of her son, Kelsey has recently shared that she is pregnant again, nearly a year after Phoenix’s stillbirth. In a touching Instagram post, she referred to this new pregnancy as a “little rainbow baby,” signifying hope and healing. Reflecting on her loss, she wrote, “A year ago next month, we lost our beautiful baby boy, Phoenix… and somehow, through all the heartbreak, it feels like Tom and Phoenix have sent us another little gift from heaven.”

Kelsey, who shares her two older children with her late husband Tom, continues to navigate her journey of motherhood amidst immense grief. Her candidness about her struggles has resonated with many, and it is her hope that by sharing her story, she can help raise awareness around the sensitive handling of similar tragic events in the future.
