According to police reports, Chen’s actions stemmed from a claimed debt of $8,000. Following his dismissal from his position at a local nail salon in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, Chen is said to have begun exhibiting erratic behaviour, which ultimately led to his termination. The owner of the salon, who was also Chen’s former employer, reported that he had previously stayed at her house and may have taken one of her house keys.

On June 12, Chen allegedly made an aggressive return to the salon, demanding money and threatening violence if his demands were not met. Witnesses describe him as having threatened to destroy property within the premises and claimed that he physically pushed the salon owner before leaving.
Chillingly, it was reported that Chen had gone to the woman’s home after this incident, where he took the urn containing the ashes. Following the theft, Chen reportedly contacted his former employer and insisted on a meeting at the salon to discuss the return of the urn. In a threatening tone, he warned her against involving law enforcement, stating he would dispose of the ashes if police became involved.
Despite his threats, the salon owner was in contact with law enforcement at that moment. They devised a strategy to confront Chen by arranging a meeting under the pretext of payment. Law enforcement officers were prepared when Chen returned to the nail salon, and he was arrested shortly after.
Court documents outline the serious charges against him, including burglary, criminal trespassing, theft by unlawful taking, theft by extortion, and receiving stolen property. These allegations paint a troubling picture of an individual who, after losing his job, appears to have resorted to criminal behaviour, culminating in an act that has shocked the local community.
At this time, it remains unclear whether Chen has entered a plea regarding the charges laid against him. The case has garnered significant media attention, reflecting broader concerns over the treatment of employers and the potential risks posed by former employees who may not handle dismissal well.
This incident raises pressing questions about the safety of personal belongings, especially remnants of loved ones, in light of interpersonal relationships that can turn sour. As the legal proceedings move forward, the affected family and community members are left to contend with the emotional ramifications of having their cherished memories threatened.
Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the theft and the relationship between Chen and his former employer. For now, residents in the area remain on alert as they reflect on the bizarre and distressing turn of events that has unfolded within their community.
