A 25-year-old man from Illinois has been arrested on multiple counts of digital voyeurism following an unsettling incident aboard Royal Caribbean’s cruise ship, Allure of the Seas. Matthew Stilwell, a resident of Pawnee, Illinois, was taken into custody on 7 June after allegations emerged claiming he attempted to photograph a minor from beneath her dress during a recent voyage.

The alleged events transpired on 31 May while the ship was sailing through the Eastern Caribbean on an eight-day round trip. According to an arrest affidavit, the victim was browsing jewellery at one of the on-board gift shops when Stilwell was reported to be standing unusually close behind her, with the camera app of his mobile phone open. The encounter reportedly occurred on three separate occasions before the young girl informed her mother about the situation.
Officers from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, having been alerted once the ship docked at Port Everglades in Florida, were provided with surveillance footage that supported the girl’s claims.
