Regina Hall recently shared insights into her transformative experience while preparing for her role in the film “O’Dessa.” At the premiere of the movie during the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, the actress spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about her distinct experience on set, particularly in terms of her appearance.

Hall, aged 54, revealed that her time in hair, makeup, and wardrobe played a significant role in shaping her character, Neon Dion. She expressed her delight in not looking like herself for the first time during the filming process. The actress jokingly mentioned, “This is the first time I go to hair-and-makeup and I look worse!” She further added, “But in the best way. It was great. It was a great time, to play Neon Dion.”

The movie “O’Dessa” is a rock opera set in a post-apocalyptic future, revolving around a farm girl’s quest to retrieve a treasured family heirloom. The storyline unfolds as she navigates a bizarre and perilous city where she encounters true love, ultimately facing a test of destiny and song.
