A musician from York, England, has tragically passed away just ten days after receiving a cancer diagnosis, leaving her fiancée and friends in shock. Molly Jenner, who was known professionally as Monarkki, was only 25 years old and had been active in the music scene alongside her fiancée, Lily Monarch.

Jenner’s health began to decline in early April when she developed a persistent cough that she assumed was a chest infection related to her work as a performer. Monarch, 29, described her partner as a beacon of light, remarking, “She lit up the life of every single person she came across.” However, the couple’s world was turned upside down when, on April 18, Jenner collapsed and was rushed to York Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Upon her arrival, medical staff conducted chest X-rays that revealed a concerning 10 cm mass in her chest. Monarch narrated the distressing events that unfolded, explaining that the mass was impacting Jenner’s ability to breathe comfortably. In the weeks that followed, the couple awaited clarity on Jenner’s condition as several biopsies yielded inconclusive results.
Finally, on May 21, the couple received a definitive diagnosis: lymphoma, a type of blood cancer affecting the lymphatic system. Monarch recounted Jenner’s initial emotional response but praised her remarkable strength and resilience. “She took the news quite well,” Monarch shared. “When I got called to the hospital… she cried in my arms. But after getting the emotion out, we started to form a plan on how she was going to beat the cancer.”
Despite her optimism and determination, the situation sharply deteriorated. Tragically, Jenner passed away on May 31, the day before she was scheduled to begin chemotherapy treatment. Monarch expressed her devastation, stating, “I’m heartbroken; the circumstances kill me every time I think about them.” This swift turn of events has been particularly agonising for Monarch, who noted that Jenner had previously been in excellent health and had never required a prescription for any medical condition prior to this.
In a heartfelt tribute to Jenner, Monarch described her fiancée as possessing an infectious sense of humour and an overwhelming capacity to care for others. “She had so much care to give,” Monarch reflected. “It just felt right having her by my side.” The couple had been making plans to travel to Finland for a performance, looking forward to what they had envisioned as the adventure of a lifetime together.
Monarch has been vocal about her grief, which continues to impact her daily life. She underscored the rapidity with which cancer can progress, reminding others of the importance of health awareness and vigilance. “This was the first health issue she ever had,” Monarch reiterated, expressing the disbelief that their lives could change so dramatically in just a matter of days.
Since Jenner’s passing, Monarch has been sharing their story in the hopes of preserving her fiancée’s memory and encouraging others to cherish their loved ones. “We were always a couple that balanced each other out during times of adversity,” she commented, indicating that they had built a life together based on mutual support and encouragement.
As the couple’s friends and family grapple with the loss, they remember Molly Jenner not just as a musician but as a vibrant individual whose legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her. Monarch believes that celebrating Jenner’s passionate spirit, combined with the bittersweet memory of their unfulfilled plans for the future, is essential in honouring the life of someone who brought joy to so many.
